Hamilton-Russell Cup Chess Dinner.  We are pleased to announce that The National Liberal Club will hold the 12th annual Hamilton-Russell Cup Chess dinner on the evening of Monday, 24 September 2018.  Tickets for the Dinner cost £70 per person. The price includes a pre-dinner glass of champagne, wines with the meal and port or brandy afterwards. Dress is black-tie preferred. The Guest Speaker will be Richard Farleigh of Dragons’ Den. Champagne reception is at 7.00pm with dinner starting at 7.30pm. Carriages at 11pm.

25th September 2018 Tuesday Table

"Tuesday Table" is open to all NLC members and their guests. A table will be reserved in the bar (or if an Indian Summer materialisies, on the terrace) from 18.30 until 20.00 for members and their guests to have an opportunity to drop by after finishing their day, to enjoy a drink (cash bar), to converse and network with other members in a relaxed and friendly environment. An optional dinner follows at 20.00. Tuesday Table is an excellent opportunity to meet other members and a great way for new members to find out more about the Club.

NLC Business Forum. Guest Speaker Mr Ben Rich - Politics and Business - the perfect misunderstanding and how to get over it” .  We are lucky to be able to hear from Ben Rich who is a senior adviser to the High Net Worth Lib Dem Business & Entrepreneurs' Network.  Previously he was Tim Farron’s Campaign Director and Interim Chief of Staff and a Partner at City Public Relations firm, Luther Pendragon.  He was vice-chair of the Lib Dem Federal Policy Committee under Paddy Ashdown and Charles Kennedy and professionally helps businesses to understand and interact with the political process. We will undoubtedly benefit from his insights and experience in effectively connecting politics and business. 6.45pm start; we will meet in the bar from 6pm onwards and then move through to the Lady Violet room. 1st October 2018 NLC Lecture - The Story of English in 100 words

NLC Lecture.   The Story of English in 100 words - Professor David Crystal OBE.  Taking inspiration from the popular BBC radio series, A History of the World in 100 Objects, Professor David Crystal OBE, the foremost writer and broadcaster on the English language, reflects on the story of the English language through 100 carefully selected words. The talk covers a fascinating journey, starting with the first written word and leading to the current status of English as the language of the internet and global communication. Professor Crystal will speak for about one hour, then take questions until 8.30pm. Ticket Prioce - £5.00 per person.  A cash bar will be available and Members are encouraged to book for dinner in the Dining Room afterwards.

9th October 2018 NLC Business Forum

NLC Business Forum. Guest Speaker - the Lord Bilimoria CBE DL, Chairman of the Cobra Beer Partnership -  An audience with Lord Bilimoria at the National Liberal Club”   . Please note the date now in your diaries. This will be an all-ticket event at £25 per ticket to include wine and a finger buffet.  Further details will follow shortly but by way of background Lord Bilimoria identified a gap in the market place and founded Cobra Beer to meet it, growing a business from scratch to operating at £multi-million scale in 45 countries. The path to lasting success was sometimes a bumpy one, but led ultimately led to not only to Chairmanship of the Cobra Beer Partnership but also a seat in the House of Lords and the Chancellorship of the University of Birmingham, among other honours. Lord Bilimoria will share with us his inspirational story of entrepreneurship and there will be the opportunity to ask questions.
