26th March 2019 Tuesday Table

‘Tuesday Table’ is open to all members and their guests.  A table is always reserved in the bar from 18.30 until 20.00 for members and their guests to have an opportunity to drop by after finishing their day, to enjoy a drink (cash bar), to converse and network with others members in a relaxed and friendly environment.  An optional dinner follows at 20.00.  Tuesday Table is an excellent opportunity to meet other members and a great way to find out more about the Club.

The Eyes Behind the Prize.  Ever bought the latest Man Booker winner only to wonder what all the fuss was about? Ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes of a literary prize? And, now the Man Booker and the Baileys Prize have both lost their sponsors , are prizes in crisis?  Join the Authors' Club and the NLC Literary Circle for an insight into what it's like to win, judge, administer and set up a major literary award. Joining Suzi Feay, former administrator of the Authors' Club Best First Novel Award, and veteran judge, are Andrew Kidd, founder of the Rathbones Folio prize for fiction; Juliet Mabey, publisher of two recent Man Booker winners (Paul Beaty and Marlon James); Paul Burston, founder of the Polari Prize; and Sunny Singh, Authors' Club Chair and founder of the Jhalek Prize.  Welcome by Kate Birch, Co-Chair NLC Literary Circle.  Wednesday 3rd April, 7p.m., Lady Violet Room. 5th April 2019 Inaugural NLC Livery Dinner

Inaugural NLC Livery Dinner. Guest of Honour - Sheriff Liz Green - “The Role of Livery in the 21st Century City”.  Open to all NLC members and guests who are members of the 110 Livery Companies and anyone who is curious about joining a Livery Company. Sheriff Liz Green was elected in 2018 following a heavily contested election – despite not being the establishment candidate she won the election by a huge margin. Sheriffs of London live in the Old Bailey during their Shrieval year, and support the Lord Mayor of London. If you or any of your guests are currently Liverymen or Freemen please let us know which Company they belong to when you book. Any NLC member wishing to become a Freeman of the City of London or to join a Livery Company will have the opportunity to apply after the dinner – and proposers and seconders will be provided.  7.00 for 7.30pm  .  Ticket price £60.00 per person including reception and wine.

NLC Golf Circle - roll-up at Hendon Golf Club. All are welcome to join the golf circle for a morning round of golf followed by sandwiches and prizegiving, likely cost £25 payable on the day.
