NLC Chess Circle - 4th Annual Lightning Chess Tournament
Chess players are warmly invited by the National Liberal Club Chess Circle to play in the fourth annual NLC Lightning Chess Tournament on Thursday 20 February 2020.
This will be a relaxed and enjoyable evening of lightning chess (in which moves are played alternately to a 10 second metronome buzzer). Each player will play around five games over the course of the evening. The winner will have their name etched on the glittering Ming Vase. We hope to welcome both NLC members and chess playing members from other Clubs. Players of all abilities welcome.
The tournament will start at 7pm sharp, with players encouraged to meet at the bar at 6.30 for refreshments. We will be dining afterward (a special set menu will be on offer).
A report of last year's event is here - http://nlcchess.net/2019/03/07/lightning-never-strikes-thrice/
Entries can be taken on the night, but it would be helpful if prospective entrants would let Ben Widdicombe (email@example.com) know they intend to play in order to get an idea of numbers which will in turn help with arrangements.
|4th March 2020||Tutored Wine Tasting - “The Wines of Val Delle Corti”||
Tutored Wine Tasting - “The Wines of Val Delle Corti”. We are thrilled that one of Chianti’s top, up and coming, wine makers, Roberto Bianchi, owner and producer at Val Delle Corti in the town of Radda in Chianti, has agreed to present his fabulous wines. Roberto took over the winery from his father about 20 years ago and has, year by year, improved quality to an extent where he has won the top award of ‘3 glasses’ in the prestigious ‘Gambero Rosso’ wards, a slow food award, recommended in Decanter Magazine and an amazing 18 points by Jancis Robinson who described him as ‘a wine maker to watch’. He has a small vineyard of around 8 ha, farms bio-dynamically and at around a mere 35,000 bottles a year is a small producer in Chianti Classico. Roberto will present a range of his Chianti Classico red wines including some vertical vintages including 2006 and 2007 and the amazing 1998 showing how Chianti Classico can age. This is a rare opportunity to taste some Chianti Classico which sells at over €70 a bottle in Italy. Ticket Price £27.50. 6.00pm
